About Simon Baggus

My name is Simon Baggus, i am 24 years old and i have been watching and following Formula One since the age of 8. I live in a little town called Barry, which is on the outskirts of the capitol of Wales, Cardiff. I have been following F1 since the age of eight and i would love for you all to follow me in my views, of the 2014 Formula One season as i blog about every race and all things Formula One.

My racing career to date.

I have an amateur racing background in the world of motor sport. Racing local, regional and national levels around the UK in 'Autograss', a form of motor sport, raced on a dirt oval circuit, with various classes, allowing different car bodied shells and various engine types, depending on which class you are entered into. My best result to date in 'class 5' was an 11th placed finish at the national Autograss championships in 2010. I had numerous final appearances in the British Autograss series also, my best final appearance to date was 7th, this was with my 'class 1', pictured left. A classic Mini.

I also have Karting experience, racing for Red Bull Karting in a championship in 2011, where i finished joint 12th in the regional finals of the competition, just missing out on a grand final place held in cardiff. I was gutted to miss the grand final event but still pleased to be joint 12th as over 1000 competitors entered. (I am in their somewhere just on the left slightly from the centre of the picture)

I also race in a UK based competition within Team-sport Karting called Kartchamps. In 2011 i finished 5th in the semi finals of the grand final weekend, missing out on the main event by one place. I returned to the competition in 2013 and with it restructured, i breezed through the local qualifiers finishing in the top three to make the grand final again, held in London. This time around i made the main event at the grand final and i finished 5th on the road just missing a podium finish.

My love of Formula One.

My first memory of Formula One was a road trip and holiday to France. Without me realising where we were, we ended up in Monaco, the same week as the Grand Prix was being held. It was a beautiful spectacle being this little boy amongst the riches and glamour of such place.

We parked up near, what would be the Monaco circuit and i remember being able to walk half of the circuit, holding my fathers hand, as it was being built. To see it first hand was something special. The car park was at the bottom of turn 8 Portier,  right before the tunnel. We walked up the path, which was still open to the public at the time, up through turns 7 Mirabeau Bas, turn 6 Grand hotel hairpin, turn 5 Mirabeau Haute and turn 4 Casino and you will never realise the gradient change unless you are there, it was like a mountain to me, being a small kid and all that.

After taking photos, looking like a proper tourist, we headed back down to the car park and out on the road. We were also able to drive through the tunnels and negotiate the Nouvelle Chicane. Then the best part happened, my father took a wrong turn and we were now behind the barriers, somehow, to my amusement. We were swiftly asked to turn around and leave as it was a no go zone for obvious reasons. Then we carried on our trip to our holiday destination.

The rest they say is history, from then on i was hooked and had to watch the Monaco Grand Prix that weekend from the TV at the holiday site.

16 years later and now i find myself still hooked and loving it as much as day one. This is where my venture into blogging begins. I thought it was the perfect opportunity, being a new season, with massive rule changes, new drivers and plenty to talk about.

So, i will be blogging about all things F1 for this years World Championship and i hope you enjoy, in my first Formula One World Championship as a blogger.
